Get StartedExterior Lighting Systems
When deciding how you want your exterior property lighting to look, there are several things you’ll want to think about. Will the light be used to accentuate the building or grounds? Will it be used as a deterrent to thieves or graffiti artists Will it allow customers to find their cars safely at night?
These determinations will give Prairie Electric design-build engineers the information they need to design your system. Spacing, placement, stanchion size, and style of light are all considerations. Lights needed to illuminate walkways are much different than the towering light poles used in parking lots or along roadways.
There are also jurisdictional codes and regulations to consider when planning your commercial outdoor lighting. Washington State has guidelines for exterior lighting if you’re located within 50 feet of a residential area for example. Prairie Electric will take all of this into account when designing your outdoor light plan.
We also have a wide variety of lighting fixtures to choose from. Utilitarian lights, globes, and decorative and options give you the opportunity to really get the lighting system of your choice. After all, they’ll be seen during the day and you don’t want to take away from the look and feel of your building or storefront.
Outdoor Light Options
When looking at light bulbs for your home, you think about the room, usage, and other factors. A 100-watt bulb probably doesn’t make sense in the dining room, just as a low-wattage bulb would be pointless in the laundry room. There are just as many options – if not more – for your commercial outdoor lighting.
Prairie Electric will help you choose the right light for your purposes. Where fluorescent lights were the bulb of choice a few decades ago, there are many other options now available. Newer options give you the choice of brightness, hues, and longevity.
Light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs are more expensive than familiar fluorescent bulbs, but they last longer can come in different colors and offer more versatility. They also won’t burn as hot as fluorescent lights. High-intensity discharge (HID) lights provide an immense amount of light and are often seen in stadiums and other large open areas.
There are also incandescent, compact fluorescent, and halogen lights for outside use, each with its advantages and disadvantages. Prairie Electric will first find out what kind of lighting you need, then give you options that fit any budget and usage.

Lighting Layout
As electric cars continue to grow in numbers, the ability to charge from home is becoming more of a necessity rather than a luxury. Whether it’s a single station at your home or a bank of spaces at an apartment complex, the electrical installation of chargers will make it more convenient for electric car owners to top off their batteries.
Lighting Control Panels
In older facilities, lighting control panels may not be equipped to handle newer light control solutions. Prairie Electric can replace your existing panels, incorporate control panels for your lighting, and even automate your lighting systems. Smart technology can be implemented to give you even more control over your lighting.
Updated panels, coupled with improved networking and upgrade fixtures and bulb, allows you to truly control just how much light your commercial building is using. The solution isn’t always to use less lighting, but to use the lighting you have more efficiently. Prairie Electric is here to help you do just that.
