Benefits of Being an Electrician
The future looks bright if you’re interested in becoming an electrician. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, electricians can expect consistent employment for the foreseeable future. Electrician job openings are expected to grow by 10 percent over the next decade. This outpaces the average for all other occupations.
As construction continues to boom in residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, there will be a need for well-rounded electricians. Even during economic downturns, there will always be a need for power and electricity. This includes new construction as well as service, maintenance, and repair aspects.
The more you learn and the more experience you gain will give you greater flexibility. Through continuing education with electrician programs and electrician courses, you’ll expand your knowledge base. And the more you know, the more you’ll be able to increase how much money you make.
Although it takes time as an apprentice, there isn’t a need for a degree. You can begin working towards journeyman status right out of high school. During your apprenticeship, you can earn money while learning the job. As you become more familiar with the field, there are several directions your career could go.
From residential to industrial work, you may find yourself drawn to installation, administrative, technical, or support positions. In some cases, what you learn on the job can be translated into college credits if you ever decide to return to school.
